The Miami Dolphins have finally added to what was looking like quite possibly the league’s worst cornerback group.
The team signed former Raiders and Patriots cornerback, Jack Jones on Saturday morning, before making a move for ex Bengals and Steelers slot cornerback, Mike Hilton.
Free-agent CB Jack Jones, who started 16 games last season for the Raiders, is signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, per source.

Hilton has always been a stand up professional and good locker room presence, emphasized by the fact he is now going into his ninth year in the NFL, having played in over 100 games.
However, Jones does not come with that same level of character pedigree. Despite having had his best season as a pro in 2024 – and the Raiders having a similarly dire CB situation to the Dolphins – Las Vegas decided to release him in early April after being unable to find a trade partner for the fourth year man.
And NFL writer, Ben Volin, shared his thoughts on Miami’s acquisition of him earlier on Saturday, emphasizing that on an off-the-field, personal level, Jones might not have been the perfect fit for the Dolphins.
Interesting choice for a team with leadership and maturity issues https://t.co/nh1OWXZ3AG

What Are Jack Jones’ ‘Leadership’ and ‘Maturity’ Concerns?
Jones was arrested back in 2023 on a firearms charge, where two of them were found in his carry-on luggage, resulting in his original release from the Patriots. Whilst there have not been too many subsequent incidents off-the-field.
On the field, however, is a different story. There have been numerous incidents of Jones being reluctant to make tackles in big spots. despite his coverage skills getting better over his time in the league.
There must have also been some inside-the-locker-room noise within the Raiders’ organization that pinpointed him as a guy that new head coach, Pete Carroll, would not want around.
How Does Jones Fit Into The Dolphins’ Setup?
Despite Jones’ possible concerns both on and off the field, he would likely come in as the team’s starting corner on the perimeter, opposite either Cam Smith or Storm Duck.
Mike Hilton, who the team also bought in today, will likely start camp as the backup behind incumbent slot – and the Dolphins’ best cornerback on the roster – Kader Kohou.
Neither Storm Duck nor Cam Smith has shown much over their three combined seasons in the league so far, so it is very likely that if Jones manages to remain on the roster through August, he could be Miami’s CB1 in charge of locking down the top receivers they will face on their schedule this upcoming season.
