The Miami Dolphins are not exactly prime Super Bowl contenders, but they do have a couple of position groups on the team that could go head-to-head with almost any other corresponding unit in the NFL.
One of them, assuredly, is at outside linebacker, where the team’s edge rushing trio of Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Chop Robinson – all of whom were selected in the first round of their respective NFL drafts – could be one of the most dangerous exterior pass rushing groups in the league this upcoming season.
Injuries to both Chubb and Phillips reduced the impact of the unit last season, with the pair playing in a combined four games in 2024. But now all are back and hopefully ready for the start of the 2025 season, expect them to do some damage.
Chop Robinson A DPOY Candidate ‘Very Soon’ – Jaelan Phillips
However, the most lethal component could actually be neither of the two. Phillips, in speaking to the media on Friday, claimed that he believes Chop Robinson has the potential to become one of the “best players” in the NFL in the not-too-distant future, per Ari Meirov.
#Dolphins OLB Jaelan Phillips talking about Chop Robinson: “I truly feel like Chop is going to be one of the best players in the league soon. … He’s a future Defensive Player of the Year candidate.”

“I truly feel like Chop is going to be one of the best players in the league very soon,” Phillips said to the media on Friday “I think he already is supremely talented, but the more comfortable he gets, the more confident he gets in everything he’s doing; I think he’s a future Defensive Player of the Year candidate. So really excited to get on the field with all three of us.”
There are no certainties in the league, especially when talking about the accolades reserved for the best of the best in football, but top players like Phillips know a corresponding top-talent when they see one.
How Will The Dolphins Utilize All Three Pass Rushers In 2025?
Whilst Robinson may have Phillips’ seal of approval, at this moment in time the second year pro is behind both Phillips and Chubb in the pecking order of the depth chart.
Yet that does not mean he won’t see the field. Expect the team to run a three-edge rusher look on clear passing downs like third-and-medium, or third-and-long, alongside defensive tackles, Zach Sieler and rookie, Kenneth Grant.
With the pair’s unfortunate injury history there is always a chance that sad circumstance may mandate Robinson’s elevation to the first-stringers, or indeed – if he is as good as the former Michigan man says he is – he might overtake one of the other two at some point in the season to become one of the full time starters on the edge.
Robinson may start to show more signs of that reportedly DPOY-level talent, after a solid 6-sack rookie season. But the one thing we know for sure is that – barring injury – the Dolphins will look seriously strong on the edge in 2025.
