Does Jets C Josh Myers Have Shot to Unseat Joe Tippmann?

So about a month ago we took to twitter to ask Jets fans if they believed newly signed center Josh Myers had a shot at unseating current starter Joe Tippmann at the pivot.  Predictably, the results were overwhelmingly in Tippmann’s favor, with over 91% of fans saying Tippmann would stay in place.

Does Jets C Josh Myers Have Shot to Unseat Joe Tippmann?

Now it seems at least one Jets beat writer believes it may be a bit early to presume Tippmann will be handed the job.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic says it looks as if there could be a legitimate competition and cited comments from GM Darren Mougey this offseason.  Following the addition of Myers he said the veteran center was going to “push” Tippmann.  That seems to be exactly what’s happening according to veteran guard John Simpson; “Those guys are battling their asses off right now, just competing”.

Selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, Tippmann is an ascending young lineman whose best days are ahead of him.  One could even argue that he hasn’t been used to his full potential up to this point and has  a lot more to offer.

However, Myers’ history with Fields at Ohio State is well documented, and it may not be a stretch to say that the Jets new brass want to do all they can to make Fields comfortable when he lines up on Sundays.
