DK Metcalf almost joined Geno Smith in a would-be blockbuster trade, per report

DK Metcalf was offered to the Las Vegas Raiders in what would have been a blockbuster trade on Friday.

According to a report from Albert Breer, the Seattle Seahawks offered their star receiver alongside quarterback Geno Smith to the Raiders in exchange for All-Pro edge Maxx Crosby. The Raiders “quickly” rejected that proposal and Seattle put together a deal that sent just Smith to Vegas for draft capital.

Metcalf remains in the Pacific Northwest, but it looks like an exit is quickly approaching.

The former Ole Miss wide receiver requested a trade on Wednesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Metcalf preferred to be dealt to a contender.

On Thursday, Seattle GM John Schneider confirmed the Seahawks were actively searching for a trade partner during a regularly scheduled interview on local Seattle sports radio. He also said the Seahawks were hopeful to have the situation resolved before next month’s NFL Draft.

“Everything’s in a very cordial, professional place. Obviously DK has requested a trade and we are entertaining that,” Schneider said. “We are talking to a ton of teams, taking offers, seeing what that looks like, and yeah, here we go.”

Metcalf, 27, has been linked to teams like Buffalo, Denver, and Green Bay, among others. He’s entering the final year of a 3-year, $72 million extension he signed in 2022. Metcalf is set to make just over $18 million in 2025.
