DJ Moore Should Be The Focal Point Of The Bears Offense This Sunday

bears receiver dj Moore

It was only a one-week sample size, but DJ Moore was as effective with Thomas Brown calling the plays as he has been all year. Caleb Williams did a great job getting the ball out quickly to Moore getting him the ball in space and giving him a chance to make plays. No. 2 was targeted seven times on Sunday and caught the ball all seven times – and his seven receptions were good enough to lead both teams for the game. Pretty efficient!

I came across Tom Thayer’s breakdown of some of the ways Thomas Brown used DJ Moore last week, and not only was it a great gameplan, but this week against the Vikings, I hope Moore’s usage is highlighted even more.

DJ Moore Can Be A Weapon Against The Vikings

I’m not saying anything we haven’t heard this week, but Brian Flores and the Vikings defense love to dial up pressure. Minnesota owns the highest blitz rate in the NFL in 2024, and with the Bears having an offensive line that has struggled and a rookie quarterback, you can bet the Vikings defense will be blitzing from all angles early and often.

That’s where DJ Moore can be the most valuable. Caleb Williams did a great job getting the ball out quickly last week. His time to throw was a career-low 2.42 seconds. It’s likely going to have to be the same story for Caleb, and that’s when DJ Moore is at his best. Quick screens, slants, drag routes in space. Moore is so dangerous with the ball in his hands with some room. Get the snap, find your man, get the ball to him quickly. If Caleb and DJ can connect early and quickly, that’s the best way to counter an aggressive defense.

I know I’m not re-inventing the wheel or anything with this take, but sometimes the best path to success is the most obvious one. The Bears have a history of overthinking things sometimes, especially on offense (remember that speed option on the goal line in Indy?!). This week I’ve talked a whole lot about doing simple better. Let’s do that on Sunday. Minnesota blitzes a lot. Great. Get the ball out quickly, get it to our playmakers in space, let them do other work.

Let’s see Caleb Williams make more progress today with another good game against a quality opponent. I think the best path toward doing that is utilizing DJ Moore early and often.
