“Didn’t Make the Impact”: Packers Defensive Line Named Biggest Weakness Of 2024 By PFF

The Green Bay Packers defensive line had its struggles during the 2024 NFL season. They did not produce a lot of sacks and yet general manager Brian Gutekunst is doubling down on this unit for the 2025 NFL season.

Green Bay did not make any massive moves for a defensive lineman during the offseason. With them wanting to stick with the defensive line they have, they are going to have to produce in 2025. Pro Football Focus listed each team’s biggest weaknesses of the 2024 NFL season.

Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman of pro football focus listed the biggest weaknesses of each NFL team during the 2024 NFL season. To no surprise, Green Bay’s biggest weakness was the defensive line. This was a unit that lacked in trying to sack the quarterback. Pro football focus said,

“Green Bay’s defensive line simply didn’t make the impact it needed to under first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. The unit placed among the bottom 10 defensive lines in PFF overall grade, PFF run-defense grade and PFF pass-rush grade. Edge defender Rashan Gary was the only player among the group to finish the season with at least a 70.0 PFF overall grade. “

For now, the projected starting defensive line for Green Bay in 2025 will be Lukas Van Ness, Rashan Gary, Devonte Wyatt, and Kenny Clark. Gary led the team in sacks in 2024 with 7.5 sacks. He will have to be better in 2025 and so will Van Ness. Van Ness was drafted in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft and he will have to perform better.

Clark and Wyatt will need to disrupt the middle. Also, if Green Bay wants to make a trade for Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals or Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, then they should do it. The Packers have to show improvements at the start of the 2025 NFL season, or they will need to trade for a pass rusher instead.
