The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t need to do a lot of passing in the snow on Sunday to post a 28-22 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in an NFC second-round game.
Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith had four receptions for 21 yards in the contest. But that was enough for the former Alabama All-American to become the franchise’s all-time leader in postseason receiving yards.
Sunday’s production lifted Smith’s career totals to 35 receptions for 481 yards and one touchdown in seven playoff games.
Smith broke Harold Carmichael’s team record for the most playoff receiving yards that had stood for more than 40 years. Carmichael had 465 yards and six touchdowns on 29 receptions in seven postseason games.
Smith said the weather conditions made it a challenging game for wide receivers.
“You can’t stop, can’t see,” Smith said. “It was rough out there.”
Smith ranks third in playoff receiving yards for Alabama alumni. Julio Jones had 992 yards and seven touchdowns on 77 receptions in 11 postseason games. Tony Nathan had 649 yards and two touchdowns on 65 receptions in 12 postseason games.
The Eagles will play the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game at 2 p.m. CST Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. FOX will televise the game.
The NFC East rivals’ third meeting of the season will determine the conference’s representative in Super Bowl LIX. The Eagles defeated Washington 26-18 on Nov. 14, and the Commanders defeated Philadelphia 36-33 on Dec. 22. Washington’s victory over the Eagles is part of the Commanders’ current seven-game winning streak.
“They’re playing great ball right now,” Smith said. “Pretty sure they’re doing things differently, so I got to look at the tape to see.”
