Detroit Lions: Veteran Journalist Finds ‘Red Flags’ In Dan Campbell’s Coaching Style After Win Over Seattle Seahawks

The Detroit Lions had a decisive victory over the previously undefeated Seattle Seahawks on Monday night courtesy of Jared Goff.

The quarterback had a spectacular game, completing each of his 18 pass attempts for 292 passing yards and scoring two touchdowns, leading to a 42-29 victory. His only error that night was the safety he yielded on the brink of the two-minute warning in the final quarter, which would have given the Seahawks a chance to score if they capitalized on it.

While the Lions won the game, Colin Cowherd still had things to say about coach Dan Campbell. The NFL analyst was peeved at Campbell’s reckless decision and called him out on Tuesday’s episode of “The Herd.”

“Detroit’s in this transition stage. Dan Campbell, created a tough culture and deserves respect, but he’s got to transition from rah-rah guy to situationally elite guy like an Andy Reid. Because my question is, ‘Why is that game close? Why are you throwing out of the end zone with a lead late and getting a safety?'” Cowherd said.

Colin Cowherd says Detroit Lions are inconsistent

Colin Cowherd claimed that the Detroit Lions’ lack of identity as a team is one key reason why he doesn’t think they could win the Super Bowl this year, noting that they lacked a consistent play style.

“If your team looks different every week, it lacks a consistency—a consistency that teams that hoist trophies have. The Chiefs games all look the same. New England’s game forever looked the same, even the Ravens game… You get that dynamic offense, you get speed, you get aggressiveness, you get good coaching, you get toughness,” Cowherd said. “I never know what I get with Detroit. They won and I saw red flags.”

While the Lions played well defensively in their first three games, the same can’t be said about their offensive game. In their game against the Seahawks, however, the situation was reversed; the offensive unit put forth their best offense, but the defense gave up more than 20 points for the first time this season.

The Detroit Lions have a bye on Week 5, and will return to action the following week against the Dallas Cowboys at the AT&T Stadium. They are currently 3-1 after defeating the Seahawks, but they need to be formidable on both ends of the field if they look to contend and win the Super Bowl.
