Denver Broncos lose key depth piece on defense before 2024 season even starts

The Denver Broncos started their Phase Three offseason workouts on Monday with OTAs, which saw some pretty important players in attendance. Sean Payton has been known to have tough OTAs and practices, and Monday was no different.

However, the first day of OTAs was marred by an unforeseen and significant event. Drew Sanders, a pivotal linebacker who was poised to make a significant impact this season, suffered a devastating Achilles tear.

This injury has not only prematurely ended his 2024 season but also left a gaping hole in the team's lineup, significantly altering their strategies before the season even begins.

Sanders is entering his second season out of Arkansas and was viewed as a guy who can make a huge leap and be a big contributor.

Coming into the 2024 season, I had Sanders listed as the second LILB behind Cody Barton. He had a very strong case to take over the starting spot, too. Now, that will be a battle that linebacker Justin Strnad can have.

You hope he recovers because, as we all know, Achilles injuries almost never allow the player to return to full form. Knowing Sanders, though, he will be back.
