The Denver Broncos' first-round draft pick is officially in!
With the 20th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have selected Texas Longhorns cornerback Jahdae Barron.
Everything to know about Jahdae Barron
Age: 23 (12/04/2001)
A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: No. 23 overall, Round 1
Career Projection: Eventual good starter
Scouting Report: "A high four star prospect who gradually grew into a bigger role and more productive player in college, Jahdae Barron followed a linear line of development. While undersized, Barron's tough-nosed approach was matched by his ability to sniff playmaking opportunities as offenses targeted his side of the field. Barron tallied five interceptions and nine passes defended in 2024 alone. He's a do-it-all type who fans and coaches will love." - A to Z Sports' Ian Valentino
Most experts and fans expected that the Broncos would go offense with their first-round pick, however they are continuing to beef up their already very good defense. Denver has two very good cornerbacks in Patrick Surtain II and Riley Moss, but not a lot of quality depth behind them.
It will be nice to have Barron on hand if Surtain or Moss get injured, but it's possible that he remains sidelined more than you'd like to see for a first-round pick. Other options who were available for the Broncos at No. 20 include running backs Omarion Hampton and TreVeyon Henderson, as well as wide receiver Matthew Golden and defensive tackle Darius Alexander.
Denver is putting an obvious focus on building an elite defense. Its top two free agent signings were both on that side of the ball in safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The good news is that this year's draft class is deep at RB, so the Broncos could still get a starting caliber one on Day 2. They could also use another quality WR and some depth along the defensive line.
