The future of wide receiver Davante Adams for the 2025 NFL season is now set.

Davante Adams traded to LA Rams, there were two reasons they couldn’t land him last season

Adams was already rumored to be traded by the Jets after a disappointing 2024 season alongside quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While the duo was expected to turn things around and improve the Jets’ early struggles, Davante Adams‘ arrival from the Las Vegas Raiders wasn’t enough to change the team’s fortunes.

The Jets finished the season with a disappointing 5-12 record and rumors of Adams leaving the Jets for a team in the west. Now Aaron Rodgers is set to become a free agent as the Jets decided not to renew his contract and start to restructure the team instead.

Ahead of the NFL free agency, Adams has found his new home—he’s leaving the Jets to join the Los Angeles Rams.

Davante Adams signs $46 million contract with LA Rams

The Rams announced Adams’ signing late on Sunday, March 9, sharing many of his highlights on social media and praising his ability to run routes.

His contract is reportedly worth $46 million over two years, according to NFL.com. He joins the team just as standout wide receiver Cooper Kupp is reportedly on his way out of the Rams before the season starts.

While Kupp remains under contract with LA until the end of the 2026 season, the team has already informed him that they plan to trade him. That makes it unlikely that the Rams will keep both Adams and Kupp, along with Puka Nacua, on the roster for 2025.

LA Rams didn’t have the cap space for Adams in 2024

Back in 2024, some NFL experts thought the Rams would have been a good landing spot for Adams as he was rumored to be leaving the Raiders before he joined the Jets. The idea was to form a wide receiver trio with Kupp and Puka Nacua that could elevate the team to the next level.

However, there were two key obstacles. First, the Rams didn’t have the salary cap space to sign Adams, even for a single season. Unless they restructured other players’ contracts, it was financially impossible to bring him in.

Second, at the time, the Rams already had two strong receivers, Kupp and the Nacua, with the latter having a breakout season in 2023. It made sense for them to rely on that duo rather than making bold moves to sign Adams.

While the deal didn’t happen last season, it led to this move for 2025. The Rams are evaluating other free agency signings and how they want to approach their 26th first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
