The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-0 and coming off of their Bye Week. They are 5-0 with a game against the San Francisco 49ers, whom they beat in the Super Bowl last season, on the docket for Sunday afternoon. They will look to increase their lead in the AFC West, a division that saw one of its best players traded earlier this week.

This player, obviously, is former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round draft pick. The move reunites the three-time All-Pro with four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two were teammates for eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers and were, at one time, one of the best duos in the NFL.

After joining the Raiders and the AFC West in 2022, Adams proved that he was an elite talent without a future Pro Football Hall of Famer throwing him passes. Indeed, the Chiefs had a difficult time covering him, though they regularly were able to win those games against Las Vegas anyway.

During his brief stint with the Raiders, Adams played four games against the Chiefs. The last of these was a forgettable one-catch-four-yard performance that saw Kansas City actually fall to Las Vegas 20-14.

However, in each of the previous three games, Adams had no less than 73 receiving yards per game. In his first game against the Chiefs after joining the Raiders, Adams exploded for three receptions, 124 yards, and two touchdowns. Kansas City, though, won 30-29.

Adams had exactly five receptions for 73 yards and no touchdowns in each of his next two games against the Chiefs. Kansas City won the second game 31-13 and the third game 31-17.

It is ironic that in the one game that Kansas City actually locked Adams down, they ended up losing. They won all of the other games, contests that saw the three-time All-Pro put up respectable or dominant numbers.

On Thursday, Adams had his regular appearance on the “Up and Adams” show with Kay Adams. She asked him about the teams that showed interest in him before the trade, and he revealed that they all happened to be the top teams on his list: the Jets, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints.

She then asked him if the Chiefs were on his list.

“Negative. No, that was talked about. I don’t want to say anything too crazy, but the Chiefs were not on the list.”

So, it appears that the three-time All-Pro did not even want to be traded to Kansas City. He obviously feels some sort of way about the team, which is to be expected as the Raiders and Chiefs are fierce division rivals.

That fact alone, that they are division rivals, probably would have kept the Chiefs from being able to acquire him anyway.
