Davante Adams Predicted to Sign With AFC Playoff Contender

For the first time in his career, 32-year-old wide receiver Davante Adams has become a free agent after the New York Jets opted to cut him despite still having two more years under contract.

He's still coming off a productive 2024 season, accumulating 85 receptions, 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns on 141 targets, so there could still be a number of teams interested in the veteran.

In an article written for Pro Football & Sports Network, Sterling Xie predicts that Adams will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, who are coming off a wild-card loss to the Houston Texans.

"There’s a perception that Adams’ numbers were inflated because his good friend Aaron Rodgers force-fed him the ball," he wrote. "But in reality, Adams’ target rate with the Jets (29.0%) almost precisely matched what it was during his Raiders tenure (28.9%)... Adding a genuine perimeter threat could allow the Chargers to finally cash in on [Justin] Herbert’s promise and win their first playoff game since 2018."

Adams could immediately come in and either battle Ladd McConkey as Herberts' No. 1 target or jump Quentin Johnston, who was the Chargers' second-most efficient wide receiver in 2024 with 55 receptions, 711 yards, and eight touchdowns.

Either way, he could have the ability to help jump-start Los Angeles' offense, which in 2024 had its ups and downs, ranking 20th in total yards per game (324.2) and 11th in points per game (23.6)

Signing Adams also wouldn't break the bank either, as Spotrac currently places his market value at $13.6 million annually, which is extremely doable for the Chargers and their $90.7 million in cap space.

A move like this could also help boost their already tied-for-tenth-best odds (+2500) at winning Super Bowl LX, per ESPN BET.
