Quarterback has been one of the biggest issues for the Las Vegas Raiders all season long. However a new potential option has unexpectedly hit the market as the New York Giants released Daniel Jones following his benching.
Jones certainly has his issues, but he has had some great moments as well and would almost definitely be an upgrade over the Raiders’ current options. As such it isn’t a surprise that the Raiders expressed interest in signing Jones after he cleared waivers.
However it looks like that won’t be coming to fruition as, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, Jones has removed the Raiders from consideration and would prefer to join a playoff contender:
It is an unfortunate blow for the Raiders, but an understandable decision from Jones, especially as he has interest from multiple playoff teams. The chance to play on that postseason stage outweighs whatever the Raiders can offer as far as Jones is concerned and it is hard to argue that point.
The Raiders will simply have to rely on the players they have in-house to get the job done and that was made even more difficult with the broken collarbone suffered by Gardner Minshew against the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.
On the positive side for the Raiders however, is that Aidan O’Connell is eligible to return from injured reserve due to a fractured thumb and is in line to start for the Raiders this Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team also has Desmond Ridder available as well and he has yet to get a long look in-game this season.
Is Shedeur Sanders hoping to get drafted by the Raiders?
Arguably the best place the Raiders could upgrade their quarterback position could be the 2025 NFL Draft and one name in particular has been linked to them for some time in University of Colorado star Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders’ father and coach, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has spoken previously about liking the idea of his son in silver and black and Shedeur could be hoping for that as well. While it could be reading too deep, Sanders has tweeted ‘Thank You God’ every Monday after the Raiders have lost. He also gave a shoutout to the Raiders after receiving a pair of silver and black cleats.
