FRISCO - It's just 3 words. Three little words.
But they carry with them a major promise for the 2025 Dallas Cowboys.
"I'm not gonna put a timeline on it, but I'll be ready for the first game,'' the three-time Pro Bowler quarterback Dak Prescott recently said. "And when anything matters and very, very ready.''
Oh, it matters. And the QB's "very, very readiness'' is central to it all.
Prescott saw his 2024 season end prematurely in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons after he suffered a hamstring injury. ... and the season faded with him, as Dallas finished a disappointing 7-10.
Now, in full rehab mode, Prescott is in a good mood regarding his injury.
"I'm feeling good,'' he said. "I'm doing more and more. The last two weeks have been huge and progressive for me."
So that is a positive and the hope is that Dak doesn't miss too much time this offseason, and by the sounds of it, he might not miss much at all.
The Cowboys underwent significant change this offseason with Brian Schottenheimer and his new staff, and the winds of change have blown through The Star.
There is an emphasis on building relationships from the coaching staff, and as far as a team identity, Schottenheimer wants a tough, physical football team, and every member of the coaching staff has echoed that sentiment.
Prescott, even at the position of QB, can be a part of that "tough and physical'' approach ... and really, doing his business that way is almost mandated by the fact that he is the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Simple fact: If a team's highest-paid guy is also among its most committed workers?
Good things happen.
In the locker room and in the end, Dak is at the wheel of this ship, and with him on the mend and seemingly in a good place in his recovery, he will need to hit the ground running in Schottenheimer's offense.
Based on Prescott's words, good things in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season can't come quickly enough.
