Derrick Henry has made many defenders look silly over the years with his stiff arm, and Trevon Diggs was determined not to be one of them.
Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys faced Henry and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, and the running back recalled something the cornerback said to him before attempting a tackle. He relayed the story to NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsworth, who told it during the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Ravens and Bills.
“Everybody fears the stiff arm,” Collinsworth said. “Everybody does. Great story that Derrick Henry was telling us is that Trevon Diggs last week came up to try and tackle him and as he was approaching Derrick Henry he said, ‘You’re not stiff arming me’ while he’s making the tackle. I’ve never heard that before.”
Ultimately, the Cowboys did a poor job of tackling Henry as they went on to lose 28-25. The running back torched the Dallas defense for a season-high of 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Henry has continued his success Sunday night against the Bills. He opened the game by breaking free for an 87-yard touchdown on the first play of Baltimore’s first drive.
He later scored another touchdown after catching a five-yard pass for the score. So far, Henry has 108 yards rushing as the Ravens hold a commanding 21-3 at halftime.
Derrick Henry is in his ninth NFL season and was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2020. He rushed for 2,027 yards this year, a number that ranks fifth in league history, as well as 17 touchdowns.
Even at age 30, Henry continues to prove with his play that he is still one of the best running backs in the NFL. He’ll aim to continue his high level of play as the Ravens aim to hang on for their second win of this season.
