Super Bowl 59 is obviously the premier story, but the NFL offseason is off and running for the other 30 teams. Sunday's pregame shows were living proof of that as they were bombarded with a wave of breaking news and rumors.
Jerry Jones predictably crashed the party after a ridiculous Micah Parsons trade rumor was unearthed by NFL Network. The report claimed the Dallas Cowboys have internally discussed whether to pay Parsons a marquee contract or trade him for a "king's ransom."
There has been zero evidence to suggest the Cowboys want to trade Parsons or that Parsons wants out. In fact, Parsons has been adamant about wanting to sign his extension sooner rather than later to allow for maximum spending this offseason. He's fully committed to Dallas.
What that settled, let's get to reacting to Sunday's fusillade of news.
While Deebo Samuel requesting a trade from the 49ers could have a domino effect if he lands within the NFC East (cough cough Commanders ), the much more pertinent story is that Aaron Rodgers will not be back with the Jets in 2025.
Aaron Rodgers leaving the Jets could give the Cowboys their dream draft scenario
FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer broke the news that the Jets informed Rodgers they plan to go in a different direction for the 2025 season. While Rodgers arguably gives New York the best chance to compete, a clean break under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey is the prudent decision.
So, why is this good news for the Cowboys?
Well, the Jets pick No. 7 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. You can now include them in the list of teams that pick before Dallas at No. 12 overall and desperately need a quarterback. That includes the Titans, who pick first overall, the Browns, who pick second, the Giants, who pick third, the Raiders, who pick sixth and the Saints, who own the ninth pick.
While this is not a deep or overly talented QB class, quarterbacks are over-drafted every year because of the position's value and sheer demand for QBs around the league. Rodgers' exit only increases the odds that three quarterbacks are taken in the top-10.
Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders are sheer locks to be top-10 picks.
Rodgers' exit makes it even more likely that three QBs are taken in the top-10. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are sheer locks, but don't be shocked if someone like Alabama's Jalen Milroe or Ole Miss' Jaxon Dart sneak into the top-10 now.
If three QBs are taken within the first several picks, one more top prospect falls. That would be the dream scenario for the Cowboys, who have needs all across their roster.
Depending on who's available, wide receiver, offensive tackle, edge rusher, cornerback and yes, running back, could all be on the table. Who knows? With so many needs, maybe Dallas is confident they can trade back and still land one of the top players on their big board that is another domino effect of a potential early run on QBs.
The bottom line is Rodgers leaving Florham Park is great news for the Cowboys. The more quarterbacks that come off the board early, the better.
