Another year, another contract dispute for the Dallas Cowboys. This time around, the Cowboys find themselves involved in some drama with superstar linebacker Micah Parsons. All offseason long, Parsons has made it clear he’s looking for a new contract, but to this point, he has yet to get one. After initially holding in to begin training camp, Parsons requested a trade from Dallas earlier this week.
While this negotiation is only taking place between the Cowboys and Parsons, it has had a lingering impact on the rest of the team. That includes star quarterback Dak Prescott, who knows what it’s like to go through the long, drawn-out contract negotiations that Parsons currently finds himself subjected to. When discussing the situation, Prescott made his feelings on the drama very clear.
Dak Prescott Addresses Micah Parsons Contract Drama
Prescott found himself in a similar position to Parsons last offseason. The star quarterback wanted a new contract, but Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office were dragging their feet. Right before the start of the 2024 campaign, Prescott put pen to paper on a four-year, $240 million contract, ending one of the more drawn-out contract sagas in the team’s recent history.
Now, Parsons finds himself in virtually the same spot. As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Parsons wants to receive a deal similar to what guys like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, and T.J. Watt have all received this offseason. At one point, it seemed like a deal was close to being agreed upon, but the two sides have arguably never been further apart than they are now.
That has left the Cowboys in a weird spot, as they are preparing for the start of the 2025 season without their best defensive player. With a trade request being made official, it remains to be seen where this saga will go next. If you ask Prescott, though, he believes that Parsons deserves to be given the sort of contract he is looking for.
I can say from experience that it’s just frustrating,” Prescott said when discussing Parsons’ contract drama. “I hate that he’s going through it, but as I’ve told him, keep handling things the way that you are, and I believe that he should be paid.”
Cowboys Running Out of Time to Extend Micah Parsons

Few players have been more impactful than Parsons since the Cowboys selected him with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In four seasons, Parsons has earned four Pro Bowl Selections, two All-Pro First Team Honors, and the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award while racking up 52.5 sacks during that stretch.
Simply put, Parsons is one of the best players in the NFL, and he is going to get paid a massive new contract at some point in the near future, whether it be from Dallas or another team. The longer the Cowboys’ front office waits, the hairier this situation becomes for them, and while it’s still early in August, they are running out of time to find common ground with Parsons.
