Cowboys' dream draft scenario is crumbling at the worst possible time

A plethora of players at plenty of different positions have been thrown around as potential targets for the Dallas Cowboys when they go on the clock at No. 12 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

One of the most popular options in various mock drafts over the past few months has been Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. And one would think most fans of America's Team would get behind this selection, even those who may be wishing for running back Ashton Jeanty.

Dallas Cowboys Introduce Brian Schottenheimer as New Head Coach

Speaking with the media a few weeks back at the NFL Annual League Meeting, Cowboys co-owner and executive vice president Stephen Jones made no secret of the fact that the franchise is looking to add an "explosive" wide receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb.

And McMillan certainly fits that bill.

In three years with the Wildcats, the Hawaii native racked up 213 receptions for 3,423 yards with 26 touchdowns, earning a pair of all-conference selections in his final two seasons as well as consensus All-American honors this past year.

At 6-foot-5 and 212 pounds, McMillan has the size to get physical if necessary, but he also possesses 4.5-4.6 speed and plenty of overall athleticism and agility. Simply put, the 22-year-old could come in and make an immediate impact.

Truth be told, it was a bit surprising to see McMillan fall all the way to No. 12 in so many mock drafts, as most experts view him as one of the top wideouts in this 2025 class. But as the first round inches closer, it looks more and more like the Cowboys won't get the opportunity to bring him aboard, not unless they're willing to trade up to get him.

Ian Rapoport believes Tet McMillan may be the first skill position player off the board at the 2025 NFL Draft

During a "Fact or Fiction" segment during a recent episode of The Insiders, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was asked if Jeanty would the first skill position player (non-QB) off the board at the 2025 NFL Draft, and he took the fiction route, saying McMillan "is a guy to watch."

"I would say based on my thoughts right now, based on the teams that I've spoken with," Rapoport said, "I wouldn't be surprised at all if T-Mac is a top-10 pick, maybe just a little bit before Jeanty.

Rapoport is obviously as dialed in as anyone when it comes to NFL news, so his comments certainly aren't to be taken lightly. The Jacksonville Jaguars could very well take McMillan at No. 5 overall, and the Las Vegas Raiders shouldn't be counted out at No. 6 either.

Obviously, if he's still on the board at No. 12, Dallas should undoubtedly scoop him up. But it's looking more and more like the Cowboys might need to consider other options.
