Micah Parsons has been the center of attention in recent weeks and even his defensive coordinator had a take on the linebacker.
Micah Parsons’ name has been in the news non-stop as of late. The Dallas Cowboys pass rusher has a side gig in which he puts his thoughts out into cyberspace. It’s dangerous as an active NFL player, because what he says could reach the ears of Jerry Jones.
The pass rusher has been particularly dangerous with his comments lately. Parsons might have put the Cowboys on notice with his word choice, claiming he might join the Kansas City Chiefs. Of course, some may argue that he was joking, but every joke has a nugget of truth, especially as experts consider a Micah Parsons trade.
Depending on how closely Jerry Jones listens to Parsons and the experts, the pass rusher might end up with the Kansas City Chiefs sooner than he realizes. However, if Cowboys defensive coordinators’ comments echo what Jerry Jones feels, the pass rusher is safe.
Micah Parsons gets sized up
In a February 18 Cowboys media news article, defensive coordinator and former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus declared what he believed Micah Parsons is.
“Micah is a premier pass rusher. We’re going to use him that way, certainly, and he’s one heck of an athlete that can do a lot of different things for us on defense. And when you have a guy like that, you want to be able to utilize his skill set,” he said.
“As we’re around him more, we’ll see what that skill set is, and really take advantage of that. … He knows that we’ll just make him in the best light that he can be in terms of position, in terms of pass rush, and really utilizing what he does best, and that’s rushing the passer,” he added.
Of course, it will take Jerry Jones getting a deal done to ensure Parsons is used as Eberflus intends.
Micah Parsons needs to play hardball early for the sake of the team
Last offseason, Micah Parsons watched as CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott patiently waited for their new deals. Jones took his sweet time before finally handing them their deals moments before the start of the season.
The delayed tactic cost both players the ability to be all-in from the jump, and it showed as the season carried down the stretch. The same psychological factors are at stake in 2025. Parsons might be able to give himself the full offseason to focus on the task instead of the compensation, but he needs to get out in front of this wait-and-see approach from Jerry Jones.
The only way to do that is to tell his agent to pressure the Cowboys with whatever it takes. Whether it’s a hold-in at OTAs, pressuring the general manager on his podcast, bringing cameras into the negotiating room, or any other means of getting the deal done quickly, he needs to turn the page as fast as possible.
Even if it means taking a small percentage less, Parsons needs to get through the negotiation quickly or history might repeat itself.
