Zach Shallcross and Kaity Biggar from “The Bachelor” are now married, E News reports.
Shallcross, a sales executive from Texas, was the bachelor on the 27th season of the dating show, which aired from January to March 2023. Biggar, a travel nurse from Canada, was one of 30 contestants. Fans watched as the couple fell in love and, during the season finale in Thailand, got engaged.
On the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast’s June 11th episode, Biggar shared that she and her husband, who also appeared on the episode, tied the knot on May 23. “We just did like a cute little chapel celebration with our closest loved ones,” she said.
The newlyweds posted more about their nuptials to their individual Instagrams following the announcement.
Video footage of their wedding day was also posted to the Bachelor Nation YouTube channel.
A Small, Intimate Wedding
Although the couple initially wanted a larger wedding, the steep costs and detailed planning involved made them reconsider. “The whole point of the wedding is staying true to the love, the connection, of both of us,” Biggar said during the podcast. “And I felt like I was homing too much on little details. I was losing the whole premise of it.”
Realizing this, Biggar and Shallcross considered marrying at a courthouse — that is, until Biggar’s aunt found the chapel, just outside Austin, that would become the couple’s wedding venue. That same aunt nominated Biggar for “The Bachelor.”
Shallcross described their wedding as “intimate” and “private.” In attendance from his side were his parents, his two younger sisters and one of his sisters’ partners and from Biggar’s side, her mother, aunt and brother.
Interestingly, Shallcross proposed to Biggar twice — the second time while on vacation in Portugal for Kaity’s 30th birthday last year.
Making ‘Bachelor’ History
“The Bachelor” premiered in March 2002 and has gone on to have 29 seasons, the last of which wrapped up last March. The premise of the show is that the Bachelor goes on dates with a select group of romantic interests. At the end of every episode, the Bachelor gives a rose to each contestant he wants to keep seeing. Those who don’t receive a rose are eliminated. This continues until he finds “the one” to give the final rose to, with the expectation he will also propose.
Shallcross and Biggar’s nuptials mark just the second time in “The Bachelor”‘s history that the Bachelor married the woman he got engaged to during the finale. The first couple from the show to do this was Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici from season 17. They have been married since 2014 and share three kids.
In a wedding photo caption posted to Instagram, Biggar playfully nodded to the fact that couples from “The Bachelor” often break up. “Who said Bachelor couples never work out? 😉💍” she wrote.
Couples engaged at the end of “The Bachelorette,” the spinoff where the Bachelorette dates from a group of romantic interests, married each other at a similar rate. Four of them, so far, have wed in the show’s 21-season run: Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter (season 1), Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried (season 9), JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers (season 12) and Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo (season 13). Lindsay and Abasolo’s divorce was finalized earlier this year.
Life Together After ‘The Bachelor’
Since appearing on the show, the couple has been sharing glimpses of their relationship on social media. As seen on Instagram, Biggar and Shallcross live in Texas and have an adorable dog named “Honey.”
Both appear to be in the same professions they were in when they appeared on “The Bachelor.” Biggar has posted about continuing to work as a nurse and Shallcross, according to his LinkedIn, is still a tech executive. With over 300,000 and 200,000 Instagram followers, respectively, Biggar and Shallcross have also become influencers.
