Country music star opens up about relationship with former Steelers quarterback

Lainey Wilson has been open about trying to keep her relationship with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges as private as possible.

But she’s a big-time country music star, and so the questions about her personal life are common. And, she and “Duck” have, slowly, opened up a bit about the relationship. Which brings us to Wilson’s interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1 this week.

The singer was asked about “Duck,” and she didn’t seem to mind sharing.

“I finally found a guy that gives me a run for my money,” she said. “And he’s my biggest cheerleader. He’s just a good person. And he knows how important chasing down a dream is because even when he was a little boy, football was his life.”

Wilson said they kicked their romance off when Hodges was still with the Steelers.

“We met at a time where he was still playing with them, but then it all changed,” she said. “So it was weird. It was like his life was changing as my life was changing and we were going different directions….”

Wilson told Lowe their relationship was a “whirlwind.”

“I mean, it’s not normal,” she said. “We don’t get to see each other as often as some couples do, but we also know that what we have is very special.”

The 28-year-old Hodges went undrafted out of Samford in 2019 and signed with the Steelers as a free agent. He was with the team through 2020, making several starts. He signed with the Rams in 2021 and also played with the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks in 2021 before calling it career.

He finished his time in the NFL with 1,063 passing yards to go with five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
