A lot of factors are taken into account when a team aims to have a historic regular season. Injuries play a major role in all of these and the hand of fate just was not beside the Los Angeles Rams during the 2024 season. Les Snead and Sean McVay would often not have a full collection of stars in their pursuit of a Super Bowl. Which player's absence cost them the most?
Well, it was none other than Cooper Kupp.
Before getting released by the Rams and getting signed by the Seattle Seahawks, the Super Bowl MVP was out for five games. Kupp cost his team about $3.9 million in injury costs just by sitting out, per SportsCasting.
On average, the Rams had a sunk cost of $789,473 whenever Kupp was sidelined. He cost the Les Snead and Sean McVay-led squad the most out of every player who endured an injury.
To put things into perspective, the next two Rams who had cost the team a lot financially were Jonah Jackson and Joseph Noteboom. They share 14 missed games between them. Jackson only cost the Rams $2.5 million and Noteboom's hit was about $2.1 million.
A lot of this had to do with the contract that the Rams gave Kupp. He was signed to a three-year deal which was worth $80.1 million after his Super Bowl MVP campaign. Obviously, this means that every missed game would amount to a large portion of their salary not being on the field.
Hopefully, Kupp stays healthy with the Seahawks and the Rams are able to have a complete unit during their 2025 campaign.
