The Washington Commanders are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season, and although they’re on a three-game losing streak, they have to be considered a dangerous team come playoff time.
However, there is a cloud of concern hanging over the team after starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. suffered a leg injury during the Week 12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, putting his status moving forward in doubt.
With backup Austin Ekeler also dealing with a concussion, the Commanders reportedly took a look at some possible replacements.
“With injuries at running back, the Commanders worked out veterans James Robinson and Boston Scott,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.
Robinson went undrafted out of Illinois State University in 2020, and with the Jacksonville Jaguars posted 1,070 rushing yards, which set an NFL record for most rushing yards by an undrafted rookie.
But his production has fallen since then, and he played just one game for the Green Bay Packers last season while getting a grand total of one carry for two yards.
He has been a man without a team this season ever since the New Orleans Saints released him in late August.
Scott, a sixth-round draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Saints, played all six of his seasons in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles, but like Robinson, he has been a free agent since late summer, when he was released by the Los Angeles Rams.
The Commanders’ running back situation is very dire right now, with Jeremy McNichols likely to take over most of the work until Robinson or Ekeler can return.
