The Washington Commanders have built a championship caliber roster and are looking to take the next step moving forward.
Few playoff teams in the league were able to not only make the playoffs last year and then still be able to follow it up this year with adds to the roster quite like the Washington Commanders.
Even with reaching the conference championship game for the first time in 30 years, the organization was able to bring in quality starters across both sides of the ball. That included left tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Yet while the club has made major strides with its roster from the very beginning of the new regime's 2024 takeover, The Athletic insider Ben Standig believes their job is not done just yet.
Nevertheless ...
"The Commanders added two offensive tackles (Laremy Tunsil, Josh Conerly Jr.), two receivers (Deebo Samuel, Jaylin Lane) and other depth pieces to last year’s fifth-highest scoring offense," Standig wrote.
"If Samuel, running back Austin Ekeler and tight end Zach Ertz can avoid extended injury absences, guard Sam Cosmi returns quickly and the Jayden Daniels rocket ship continues soaring, Washington’s attack will be a massive problem for foes.''
Who can argue with any of that?
Washington's additions this offseason should help them reach new heights in 2025.
But ...
They have major needs across the roster including their defensive line. There are certainly potential answers for the organization to solve those needs, but it hasn't been done just yet. (Hint: That Trey Hendrickson trade idea looms ...)
The Commanders have worked hard this offseason to build the roster they feel is needed to compete for Super Bowls. They aren't a perfect team, but they are certainly closer to that title contention than they were before the offseason began.
And they are closer to a top-notch roster than they were in the NFC title game.
And that's saying something.
