The Washington Commanders' offense under Jayden Daniels and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in Year 1 was one of the best in football (28.5 p/g).
But with a big emphasis on Terry McLaurin as the offense's focal point, once he was taken away, Washington struggled.
McLaurin posted 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, with the next-best "receiver" being Olamide Zaccheaus (506 yards, three touchdowns). That is a big drop between Terry and the rest.
But CBS Sports thinks that the Commanders should look to get Daniels another weapon this offseason, and have circled free agent Tee Higgins as the choice.
"The Commanders have plenty of work to do on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, but they also can't run it back with what they have at wide receiver," CBS Sports writes. "Jayden Daniels needs someone other than Terry McLaurin to throw the ball to, and Tee Higgins is arguably the top free agent in this entire class. The 26-year-old caught a career-high 10 touchdowns this past season in just 12 games played."
Spotrac.com has Higgins' market value at $25.4 million APY - maybe a five-year deal worth $125 million plus.
Would Washington want to stump up that kind of money?
Possibly, and Higgins would give the offense two bonafide stars for Daniels to work with. Coming off 911 receiving yards and 10 touchdown seasons from just nine games, Higgins was productive in the Cincinnati Bengals offense.
Partnering him with McLaurin would give the Commanders a serious offensive boost as Daniels will enter Year 2 with perhaps on of the best receiver duos in football.
