Commanders Signing Tee Higgins Dream Hits Tag Snag

The idea isn't dead. It just got more complicated.

The Washington Commanders' offense under new Jayden Daniels and new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in Year 1 was one of the best in football, scoring 28.5 points per game.

And not to say it was done with smoke and mirrors ... but it was certainly done without the help of a top-notch second receiver.

Indeed, with a big emphasis on Terry McLaurin as the offense's focal point, once he was taken away - on the occasions when he was - Washington struggled.

McLaurin posted 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, with the next-best "receiver" being Olamide Zaccheaus (506 yards, three touchdowns). That is a big drop between Terry and the rest.

Enter Tee Higgins, arguably the top free agent in this entire class. The 26-year-old caught a career-high 10 touchdowns this past season in just 12 games played.

Spotrac.com has Higgins' market value at $25.4 million APY - maybe a five-year deal worth $125 million plus.

Would Washington want to stump up that kind of money? And now that the Bengals are reportedly going to franchise him …

Is it even worth the trouble?

Higgins would give this offense two bonafide stars for Jayden Daniels to work with. Coming off 911 receiving yards and 10 touchdown seasons from just nine games, Higgins was productive in the Cincinnati offense.

Partnering him with McLaurin would give the Commanders a serious offensive boost as Daniels will enter Year 2 with perhaps on of the best receiver duos in football.

But the tag likely means a trade. Which means the tag creates a snag
