Commanders Set For History After Major Announcement

Fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for the full 2025 NFL schedule release set to drop on Wednesday. The Washington Commanders and several other teams, however, have gotten an early peak at some key dates on their schedule.

The league announced Monday that the Commanders will host the vaunted Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game. The two will get a pair of games this season, but that contest will be at home for Washington on Saturday, December 20.

Tuesday, the Commanders officially learned of their second game announcement of the season. Instead of hosting once more in the confines of Northwest Stadium or traveling a few hours across the country, they will head to Europe in Week 11.

Washington will face off against the Miami Dolphins in the NFL's first ever game in Spain. The game is set for a 9:30 a.m. kickoff from Santiago Bernabeau Stadium in Madrid in what is now the second standalone game announced for the Commanders thus far.

This will be a key part of the NFL's largest promotion of the International Series to date, bringing games to Ireland, Germany, Brazil and England. The NFL has made it a priority to expand their brand globally and will do so in Spain with one of their brightest young stars in a new market.

In a short trailer posted to X, former UFC Champion Ilia Topuria reveals himself wearing a Jayden Daniels jersey under his jacket, a nod to the Commanders quarterback.

Topuria has become one of the most popular athletes in Spain amid his meteoric rise in mixed martial arts. Clearly, the league had some motivation in choosing the Commanders and Daniels for this game.

So that marks two weeks down and only 16 more to go as fans watch this puzzle come together in full by Wednesday evening. But already, Commanders fans have much to look forward to.
