One important piece of busiess for the Washington Commanders this offseason was re-signing Jayden Daniels' security blanket, tight end Zach Ertz.
Having been one of Daniels' most trusted weapons not named Terry McLaurin, Ertz was a consistent producer for the Commanders last season, and now he's back on a one-year deal as the franchise looks to improve on what was a successful first year with Daniels.
But could they look to add even more firepower and get Daniels another tight end?
Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios thinks Baltimore Ravens star Mark Andrews could be an option via trade.
"Zach Ertz is coming back on another yearly deal, but this might be his last season with them as the Commanders will probably search for a new tight end in the draft," Palacios writes. "If that doesn’t work, they could pursue a veteran in free agency. Andrews is more than capable of holding the fort together for quarterback Jayden Daniels, as he’s younger and more upside than Ertz."
Right, there is a bit to work through here.
With the Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil trades, the Commanders have already parted with draft picks, leaving them with just five at the time of writing. Plus, if Washington waits 12 months, Andrews would be a free agent, so that could be the time to strike.
We don't get the sense that the front office would be willing to get going on another trade, plus having another tight end when Ertz was already one of the focal points last season.
But if the Commanders do feel like they are in the Super Bowl sweetspot, the more weapons for Daniels the better - we just aren't sure how feasible an Andrews trade is right now.
