Jerry Jones has come in for severe criticism and ridicule for his handling of the Dallas Cowboys' team affairs in recent years. That's come as a great delight to Washington Commanders fans, who've been the NFC East's laughingstock for too long before their remarkable run to the conference championship game in 2024.
The Cowboys are seemingly way behind the Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles for divisional supremacy. Jones is taking the brunt of the fanbase's frustrations, but he's confident things can turn around with a healthy Dak Prescott under center and some exceptional playmakers on both sides of the football.
For all his faults, Dallas has typically drafted well, especially in the early rounds. All eyes were on their No. 12 pick to see how it might shake things up.
Commanders can give Tyler Booker real problems with defensive tackle trio
As it turned out, the Cowboys went with Tyler Booker. The offensive lineman comes with a lot of likable traits, notably his athleticism, size, and raw power. Fortunately for the Commanders, they already have a perfect plan to nullify his threat.
The Commanders have a prominent defensive tackle trio ready to give Booker all he can handle. Daron Payne is a Pro Bowl-caliber performer at the peak of his powers. Johnny Newton remains a player of enormous promise despite going through some rookie growing pains. Javon Kinlaw might have been an overpay, but he's a big body capable of making life extremely difficult when firing on all cylinders.
Booker is not Zack Martin. He's younger and more explosive, but he'll go through an inevitable rookie transition in the trenches. That's something the Commanders must take advantage of in pursuit of maintaining their newfound advantage over their most heated rival.
This was a smart pick by the Cowboys. Booker is an outstanding prospect capable of carving out a profitable career for himself, but the Commanders have more than enough to match fire with fire.
And if the Commanders add another interior presence to their defensive line during the draft, the better their chances will be.
