Donald Trump has been called a lot of thing during his two terms as President of the United States, but this week Josh Harris laid a new one on him:
"Ultimate Commander."
With the announcement that the Washington Commanders will host the 2027 NFL Draft on the National Mall in D.C., team owner visited The White House. Flanked by Trump and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Harris gave the President a jersey.
"You're the ultimate Commander,” Harris said. "Also, there's no no bird on it.” That was in reference to Trump last week hosting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles at The White House.
The draft will be held on the National Mall across the three-day event. The Commanders will host the draft in partnership with Events DC, the city’s local organizing committee.
The event is expected to draw one million attendees.
“The draft has really become one of the great entertainment sports events,” Goodell said. “Just a week ago in Green Bay, we had close over 600,000 people attend, the year before in Detroit, we had close to 800,000. We not only believe it’s a great site, we believe it is consistent with what the president said, which is investing in our communities, investing specifically here in our nation’s capital.”
Added Harris, "What a great day for Washington.”
The announcement continues an abrupt transformation for Washington, which for years was irrelevant under the dysfunctional ownership of Dan Snyder. Under Harris, the Commanders drafted Jayden Daniels and made it to the NFC Championship Game.
The news comes a week after the Commanders announced its plans to build a new stadium in D.C. at the site of old RFK Stadium. It is scheduled to open for the 2030 season.
