As Week 13 approaches, the Washington Commanders find themselves searching for a spark. Hosting the Tennessee Titans at Northwest Stadium, the Commanders look to rebound after a 34-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which extended their losing streak to three games.
While Washington’s offense has shown flashes of brilliance, the defense remains the key to breaking their slump.
While the Commanders’ offense shone last week with 411 total yards, including a standout performance by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the defense faltered. Despite facing Dallas’ last-ranked rushing attack, Washington allowed 91 yards on the ground, 86 of which came from Rico Dowdle. Key defensive stops eluded them, contributing to their recent struggles.
Some good news for Washington is the potential return of All-Pro cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who practiced for the first time since being acquired at the trade deadline. Although still limited, his progress from being listed as a “Did Not Participate” since joining the team provides hope for much-needed defensive stability. “He’s trending in the right direction, and his presence could make a significant impact,” a team source said.
The Commanders’ defense currently ranks 16th in total yards allowed (334.8 per game) but struggles against the run, allowing 145.5 rushing yards per game, ranking 29th in the league. However, Tennessee’s offense ranked 24th overall and averaging just 18.4 points per game, presents an opportunity for Washington to turn things around.
A strong defensive showing could not only secure a much-needed win but also reignite postseason ambitions as the Commanders aim to capitalize on the Titans’ offensive vulnerabilities. A dominant defensive performance, particularly in containing Tennessee’s rushing attack, could be the turning point Washington needs to stay in the postseason conversation.
If Washington’s defense can rise to the occasion and complement their offense’s recent success, they could finally snap their losing streak and regain momentum heading into the season’s critical stretch.
