Adam Peters again displayed his ruthless streak during his second recruitment period at the helm. The Washington Commanders roster is in a better place as a result, but there was always going to be some collateral damage along the way.
That's the price of progress. Peters knows what he's doing, and fans have complete faith in the general manager's ability after watching the Commanders go from underachievers to Super Bowl challengers in one season.
Not everyone came along for the ride. And fans now have a confirmed date to see one of the team's perennial scapegoats fall apart from the opposite side of the fence.
Commanders' chances improve with Benjamin St-Juste lining up for the Chargers
The Commanders will travel to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5. This is going to be a physical, close-fought contest that could be decided by fine margins. If fifth-year cornerback Benjamin St-Juste is on the field for a prolonged period, Washington's chances will improve considerably.
St-Juste got countless opportunities in Washington but almost always flattered to deceive. He struggled on an island and was a walking defensive pass interference penalty waiting to happen. After one mistake too many, the Commanders sent him to the fringes at the business end of their 2024 campaign.
It came as no surprise to see St-Juste leave when his rookie contract expired. He's getting a fresh start in the California sunshine with a revered head coach in Jim Harbaugh, who loves cornerbacks with length. The former Minnesota standout ticks that box, but carving out a role for himself will be difficult upon further examination of his technical flaws.
If St-Juste gains prominent reps, the Commanders should target him every single time he's lined up. It doesn't matter if it's Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel Sr., Noah Brown, Luke McCaffrey, or Jaylin Lane; that's where Jayden Daniiels should go with the football. Because every Washington fan knows what happens when the defensive back gets put under any sort of pressure.
St-Juste might excel with some extra motivation and revenge on his mind. But history suggests otherwise.
