The Las Vegas Raiders have been in quarterback purgatory for nearly two decades and they desperately need to right the ship this offseason. NFL.com writer Eric Edholm thinks that the Raiders are the most likely landing spot for highly-touted college quarterback Shedeur Sanders from the University of Colorado.
"The Raiders need a quarterback. They could use some buzz. Tom Brady is a limited partner. Pete Carroll is the coach. And it's Vegas -- c'mon," wrote Edholm. "If there was ever a town built for one of the flashier, more famous family names in football, it's this one. It just feels right, on a vibes level, anyway."
Vibes are far from the only thing that matters to an NFL franchise when selecting a prospective player, but the reality is that Sanders is a very good quarterback as well. He was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 and is a consensus top-10 pick, but Edholm doesn't think the Raiders will have to move up for him.
"It's not hard to envision the Raiders being the team Sanders ends up with -- especially since they might not have to move at all," wrote Edholm. "His draft standing should become clearer over the next two-plus months, but it's not a stretch to think he will simply be available for them on the clock at No. 6."
If the Raiders can land a potentially franchise-altering quarterback in the draft without having to wager any future draft capital, then that is the best-case scenario for the organization. Sanders certainly has a vote of confidence from Tom Brady, whose presence and opinions weigh heavily in Las Vegas.
