Cleveland Browns waive former Alabama offensive lineman
Javion Cohen made the Cleveland Browns’ 53-man active roster as an undrafted rookie coming out of the preseason. But the former Alabama guard didn’t get much of a chance to play before the Browns waived him on Tuesday.
Cleveland had an 11-6 record and went to the playoffs in 2023. But the Browns have won only one of their five games in 2024, and on Tuesday started making personnel moves.
In addition to Cohen, Cleveland also waived defensive tackle Sam Kamara and tight end Blake Whiteheart from the active roster and released linebacker Michael Barrett, running back Royce Freeman and offensive tackle Ricky Lee from the practice squad.
Cohen had appeared in one game, getting on the field for three special-teams plays in the Browns’ 20-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 29.
Cohen played for Alabama in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons before completing his college career at Miami (Fla.).
Before joining the Crimson Tide, Cohen was a second-team All-State selection for Central-Phenix City’s AHSAA Class 7A championship team in 2018 and a first-team All-State pick in 2019, when the Red Devils were the state runners-up.
