The Kansas City Chiefs may be the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, but Cincinnati Bengals superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase thinks that the Bengals – not the Chiefs – are actually the team to beat in the AFC.
As Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals prepare for their Week 2 showdown with the Chiefs, Chase made it very clear that he believes Cincinnati is the top team in the AFC, and he thinks everyone else does too.
“Everybody knows that, bro,” Chase said Thursday according to Ben Baby of ESPN. “It’s not ‘if.’ We are the team to beat in the AFC. And we know it. And we gotta play like it, too.”
The Bengals and Chiefs have had some high-profile showdowns in the past, splitting the AFC championship games in 2021 and 2022. They two teams have formed a sort of rivalry in recent years, and it sounds like Chase is excited to play another game against them.
“The energy’s there [on] both sides,” Chase said. “I’m sure they know we don’t like them. They know they don’t like us. So the energy’s already there. There’s not really much we got to say now to this point. It’s been four years now, so everyone gets it.”
