Chock Chapple Was The True Villain On The Golden Bachelorette, Not Guy Or Pascal (Is Joan Vassos Too Blinded By Love To See The Red Flags?)
Though Guy Gansert and Pascal Igbui let Joan Vassos down, Chock Chapple was the true villain of The Golden Bachelorette season 1. Joan, a 61-year-old private school administrator from Maryland, had been through a lot over the years and deserved to find true love. She was married to the love of her life, John Vassos, for 32 years until he passed away in 2021, leaving behind his devastated wife and four children. Joan bravely decided to open her heart again when she appeared to be a contestant on The Golden Bachelor with 72-year-old Gerry Turner.
Just as Joan and Gerry started to connect, she had a family emergency and had to leave the show early. She thought her journey was over, but she was cast as The Golden Bachelorette. Joan kicked off her season by meeting the 24 single men on The Golden Bachelorette, including 60-year-old Chock, 66-year-old Guy, and 69-year-old Pascal. Guy and Pascal let her down, and she ultimately gave her final rose to Chock, but she must have missed all the red flags wildly flapping about.
Chock Acted Very Possessive Of Joan
He Doesn't Like To Share
During an early episode of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan took several men on a group date to a bowling alley, including Chock. Most of the men seemed to have a great time, but it was clear Chock didn't like sharing Joan with the other guys. His last date with Joan was a one-on-one date at Disneyland, so he wasn't accustomed to sharing Joan in a group setting. He sat right next to Joan during the entire date, with an arm possessively around her. It didn't give any of the other men a chance, but Chock didn't seem to notice or care.
Pascal & Guy Let Joan Down
They Had Their Own Significant Downsides
Chock may not have been perfect, but Pascal and Guy had their issues too. During Pascal's overnight date, Pascal told Joan he saw her as a friend before eliminating himself from The Golden Bachelorette season 1. Since then, Pascal has bragged about his love life. For his part, Guy was the subject of a franchise scandal when it was revealed that his ex-wife had filed a protective order against him in 2021. She withdrew the request a month later, and it was never fully official, but it was still disturbing
Did Joan Make The Right Decision Choosing Chock?
She Had No Good Options
Though Pascal and Guy weren't Joan's best options, she shouldn't have given her final rose to Chock either. There's nothing that says The Golden Bachelorette has to end with an engagement. Considering Joan's options, no one could have blamed her for choosing to keep her final rose to herself and walk away from the show on her own. Instead, Joan overlooked Chock's red flags and gave him her heart.
