Kansas City Chiefs fans have grown accustomed to seeing and hearing the best out of Patrick Mahomes. Still, it's always interesting to hear what those who get to see what he is like behind the scenes have to say about the All-Pro quarterback.
In a recent appearance on the "New Rory and Mal" podcast, veteran offensive lineman Trey Smith provided Chiefs fans with a glimpse of what Mahomes is like when there aren't cameras on him. Fittingly, he is even a more impressive quarterback than anyone would think, in addition to being a fantastic human being.
"Honestly, the stuff that you guys don't see in practice will blow your mind the most, nonchalant around the back, under the leg," said Smith, via Ed Easton Jr. of ChiefsWire, "just crazy stuff that he does that's just like, when you rewind it, you're like 'man, he really did just throw that perfectly."
"There are probably not enough good things I could say about Pat," said Smith. "One thing I could say is that he gifted me one of the most valuable possessions: two Rolex watches. He got us a golf cart, a fully tricked-out club cart, all new golf clubs, and Oakley sunglasses. The list goes on and on and on."
With the massive contract Mahomes has signed to stay in Kansas City for (likely) the remainder of his professional career, it is great to hear that the Chiefs' star shares the wealth with those who help him be so effective week in and week out. Given what we know about Mahomes as a person, this isn't overly surprising to see.
What is somewhat unbelievable, though, is that Mahomes could somehow be more creative with the way he distributes the ball in practice than what fans have seen on Sundays. It seems like once a month, we see Mahomes do something so spectacular that the rest of the football world just stops in awe.
If he is breaking out under-the-leg passes on the practice field, his skills go far beyond what fans have been fortunate enough to see from him to this point.
Hopefully, Mahomes can break out some of those tricks referenced by Smith at some point during the 2025 campaign so that fans can have another incredible highlight to remember.
