Chiefs urged to trade for $100 million Browns superstar before deadline

It's incredible that the Kansas City Chiefs are still undefeated. Yet they will still need to find reinforcements in order to defend their back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

All teams go through injuries, but the Chiefs losing their top two receivers and their number-one running back by Week 5 was never part of the plan. Patrick Mahomes II is as good as anyone at doing more with less, but at some point, he'll need more talent around him.

Chiefs urged to trade for $100 million Browns superstar before deadline

With under a month to go before the Week 9 trade deadline, the Chiefs have to be scouring rosters around the league to see who the sellers will be. At some point, good wide receivers will become available, and Kansas City must be ready to pounce.

One team that can and should become a seller is the Cleveland Browns, who are off to an abysmal 1-4 start behind embarrassing quarterback Deshaun Watson. That should make free agents on the Cleveland roster expendable, and one would be of great interest to the Chiefs.

Amari Cooper, the five-time Pro Bowler in the final year of his $100 million contract originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys, could be in line to be traded for the third time in his career. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named the Chiefs as one of the top fits for Cooper at the deadline.

"The Browns had "no plans" to move Cooper ahead of their latest loss... but Sunday's embarrassment should change Cleveland's tune," Knox said. "Cooper would be an ideal target for the Chiefs, as he's been a proven No. 1 target at every NFL stop thus far."

Cooper, 30, is surprisingly a 10-year NFL veteran at this point, yet he still hasn't played in a conference championship game yet. He's only 304 yards away from 10,000 on his career, so it would be fitting to tick off that milestone while competing for a championship in K.C.

The devil is always in the details with a midseason trade, as blockbusters are more rare in football than in other major sports. But this one makes enough sense that it really might end up happening.
