The Kansas City Chiefs have lost just one game this season, but things are not as dominant as they seem. The Chiefs defense could still use some reinforcements. They could consider bringing in secondary help before the playoffs.
The Chiefs secondary lost L'Jarius Sneed in the offseason. That paired with the injury to Jaylen Watson has put them in a tough spot. While listing potential players to help, FanSided's Lyle Graversen urged the team to sign Patrick Peterson.
Raiders vs. Chiefs preview Week 13
Here's everything you need to know when the Las Vegas Raiders play the Kansas City Chiefs Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season.
"Patrick Peterson is the oldest player on this list. He may very well be retired, but as recently as October, he implied that he'd still be interested in playing again," wrote Graversen. "Peterson played a whopping 683 coverage snaps just last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. PFF gave him a 61.4 coverage grade and quarterbacks had an 80.4 passer rating when targeting him. That's not terrible."
Peterson at his peak was one of the best players in the National Football League. He made the Pro Bowl in his first eight seasons. He was also named an All-Pro three times in that span. He may not be the same player he was for the Arizona Cardinals, but he can still provide the Chiefs with valuable snaps down the stretch.
"The question is if Peterson physically still has it," asked Graversen. "Would I trust Peterson to hold up over a 17 game season and the playoffs at his age? No. Would I even want Peterson playing 100% of the snaps from this point in the season on? No, but if the Chiefs were to sign Peterson now and ease him into the rotation, could Peterson get up to speed and conditioning just in time for the playoffs and possibly play some quality snaps during KC's playoff run? That sounds more like something the Chiefs might want to look into."
