The Chiefs' Week 18 travel plans were slightly delayed after the team's plane was "stranded" at Kansas City International airport on Saturday. But it sounds like things are moving in the right direction.
The defending back-to-back Super Bowl champs were set to arrive in Denver ahead of Sunday's regular season finale at 3 PM. However, ice accumulation at MCI forced all planes to be grounded and flight operations to be closed about five minutes before KC's scheduled takeoff.
"The runways at the Kansas City Airport will reopen and resume normal operations in about 30 minutes," city manager Brian David Platt shared to X this evening.
Fans rejoiced on social media.
"Prayers for safe flight for the team," a user said.
"The short Chiefs Kingdom nightmare is about to be over. Chiefs charter should be on its way soon and arrive in Denver only a couple of hours late," Matt Derrick reported.
"Good news for the Chiefs (and others)," Arrowhead Addict commented.
"Can the Chiefs leave first?" a reporter asked.
"That's their window. Please get our precious Chiefs cargo out of here safely!" a fan prayed.
"Good news as snowstorm is about to hit KC area in next 2-4 hours," Mike Klis of 9News replied.
"Praying everything goes well and the Chiefs planes are able to take off. If so, game on tomorrow!"

Kansas City already has the one-seed locked up in the AFC playoff picture. But a win or tie for the Broncos, or Dolphins and Bengals losses would slot Denver into the final spot of the postseason.
Hopefully everyone at MCI is able to fly safely to their respective destinations and stay warm in the frigid winter weather.
