Chiefs sign kicker, offensive lineman while preparing for quick turnaround against Raiders

Chiefs vs. Raiders: D.J. Humphries signing official

The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for a quick turnaround this week as they prepare to host the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Injuries prompt roster changes

Chiefs kicker Spencer Schrader, who nailed the game-winning field goal against Carolina on Sunday, sustained a hamstring injury.

The team signed veteran kicker Matt Wright to the practice squad.

Mixed feelings about the quick turnaround

While Friday’s game offers the allure of a national spotlight, not everyone on the team is thrilled with the condensed schedule.

"I’d rather just play on Sunday, not these Thursday or Friday games," defensive tackle Chris Jones said. "It feels like there’s not enough rest time, but I get it—it was allocated for this spot with only one team playing. Personally, though, I love my rest. I have a recovery routine throughout the week that my body gets used to, so with these games, you have to speed everything up."

The Chiefs remain confident they will be ready.

The Chiefs are aiming to avenge last year’s disappointing loss to the Raiders, who spoiled Christmas with a win at Arrowhead.

Reinforcement for the offensive line

In addition to addressing the kicking situation, the Chiefs bolstered their offensive line by signing tackle D.J. Humphries.

The move is expected to improve protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was sacked five times in Carolina last Sunday.
