The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Kingsley Suamataia to be their long-term solution to protect Patrick Mahomes ‘ blind side. However, he showed some rookie struggles and is now the second-choice tackle. With their sights set on a third straight Super Bowl, GM Brett Veach was not satisfied.
Prior to the trade deadline, Veach went out and brought superstar wideout DeAndre Hopkins to give Mahomes a true No. 1 receiver. That has played out well so far even though their unbeaten streak stopped last week.
Brett Veach also wanted to shore up the secondary with a bold move but was outbid by another team. However, when a chance appeared on the horizon for a different position, the general manager sprang into action. When NFL Insider Ian Rapoport caught wind of it, he wrote this on his X account.
The Chiefs are giving former Pro Bowl LT DJ Humphries a salary that pays him $2M with a max value of $4.5M for the rest of the season in a deal done by AMDG Sports. Big money this time of year.

DJ Humphries was on the market once he recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in 2023. Rapoport mentioned earlier that he had visited the New York Giants earlier. But it seems he decided to take a chance at being a part of a team on the road to creating history.
The deal is a lot for a player returning from a significant injury. But he is a former Pro-Bowler and was signed with the intent on being a cover, in case they lose one of their offensive tackles to injury. The deal makes it clear that the team shoring up wherever possible, all for that three-peat.
When injury struck one after the other star wide receiver, Kansas City Chiefs fans felt there was no chance their team could create history. Then, Hopkins coming in gave them some hope. Bringing back Kareem Hunt was a shrewd move. They avoided being hamstrung at running back even after Isiah Pacheco was out.
But little did they anticipate that Patrick Mahomes would have a down season, especially by his lofty standards. There were also question marks on defense before the season started. However, nobody expected that despite all these issues, the Chiefs would win their first nine games.
They did have some luck from officiating mistakes. But even despite that, the team has found a way to be at the top. Their loss to the Buffalo Bills was not a knock on the team as a whole. But it gave them an opportunity to see what could go wrong.
With Pacheco coming back, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown rumored to return before the playoffs, good news might be on the horizon. But rest assured, once Patrick Mahomes fixes some of his turnovers, Andy Reid and the Chiefs have everything going to create history.
