Chiefs Rival Facing Major Drama With Key Playmaker Before Minicamp

The majority of NFL teams have wrapped up organized team activities (OTAs) and have mandatory minicamp slated next on their schedule. The Kansas City Chiefs have their third phase of OTAs running from June 10-13, before minicamp takes place from June 17-19.

Chiefs vs. Bills Game Day Guide: How to Watch, Stream and What's at Stake

Meanwhile, many teams have minicamps getting underway next week, including the Buffalo Bills, whose next offseason phase will begin on Tuesday.

But just as the action is set to resume in a few days, the Bills received some bad news about one of their star playmakers seeking an extension.

Chiefs News: Bills RB James Cook is Holding Out Before Minicamp

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday afternoon that Bills running back James Cook "has basically disconnected himself from the organization and the city, and put his house up for sale. I don’t think we’ll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon.”

Cook has publicly stated that he's looking for an extension worth $15 million annually. The Georgia product is going into the last year of his rookie deal and was one of the best backs in the league last season.

In 2024, Cook had 1,009 rushing yards, 258 receiving yards, and a league-best 16 rushing touchdowns. He's an integral part of Buffalo's offense, and it's clear a holdout is brewing in upstate New York.

He even listed his home in Orchard Park, NY, for sale back in April.

The 25-year-old will do anything it takes to get a new deal, but it looks like the Bills aren't going to budge. He has already been distant from the team, and it looks like he won't be showing up for minicamp. That will make him subject to potential fines as well.

This is some extra drama around the team that players and coaches will have to answer. The Bills are looking to take that leap and take down the Chiefs in the playoffs to reach the Super Bowl, but they will certainly be a worse team without Cook in the fold. While the Chiefs are having a quiet offseason, their rivals are going through it with a key playmaker.
