The Kansas City Chiefs nearly made National Football League history by winning three straight Super Bowls, but fell short to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
After finishing the regular season with a 15-2 record and cruising through the playoffs to their third consecutive Super Bowl, the Chiefs were completely outmatched by the Eagles, losing 40-22. One of Kansas City's biggest areas of concern was the offensive line, as Patrick Mahomes took six sacks in the Super Bowl.
Mahomes was sacked a career-high 36 times last season, so despite the Chiefs not needing much, an upgraded line is a priority. ESPN's Matt Miller reported that the Chiefs are looking to trade up in the first round of the NFL Draft, likely to draft a lineman.
"I've heard that the Kansas City Chiefs are actively looking to trade up in Round 1," Miller wrote. "They signed left tackle Jaylon Moore in free agency but were otherwise quiet, opting to re-sign their own versus hitting the open market."
"A move up in Round 1 would likely be for a long-term offensive tackle solution; I heard the goal would be to move in front of the Houston Texans (No. 25) and Los Angeles Rams (No. 26) if the Chiefs like a specific left tackle still on the board."
There are some talented offensive linemen in this year's draft, but players like Will Campbell and Armand Membou likely won't be selected in the low end of the first round. If the Chiefs make a trade to move ahead of the Texans and Rams, they could draft a player like Ohio State's Josh Simmons to give Mahomes more pass protection for the 2025 season.
