The Kansas City Chiefs look for their first 6-0 start since the 2013 season in an epic Super Bowl Rematch versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday late afternoon at Levi’s Stadium. Patrick Mahomes is not playing his best completing 69.4% of his passes for 1,235 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Others on the team like Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce have a combined 516 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Xavier Worthy has 12 receptions for 179. On the ground, the Kansas City Chiefs are averaging 118 yards per contest, and Kareem Hunt leads the way with 171 yards and one touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, Kansas City is allowing 17 points and 305 yards per game. Nick Bolton leads the Chiefs with 38 tackles, Chris Jones has three sacks and Chamarri Conner has one interception, so they’ve done enough to keep this team undefeated thus far.
Kansas City Cheifs Face Off Against 49ers Coming Off Of Red Hot Win
The San Francisco 49ers on the other hand lost the the Arizona Cardinals, then turned it around against the Seattle Seahawks last week with a huge 36-24 win in Seattle. The 49ers have won seven of their last eleven home games. Quarterback Brock Purdy is completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 1,629 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings have combined for 755 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Deebo Samuel has twenty receptions.
On the ground the 49ers are averaging 158 yards per contest, Jordan Mason leads the way with 609 yards and three touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the 49ers’ defense is allowing 22 points and 316 yards per game, with Fred Warner leading the team with 50 tackles, Kevin Givens has 3.5 sacks and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles has one interception. The 49ers have underachieved for much of the season, and the defense hasn’t been nearly as dominant as people are used to seeing.
The Kansas City Chiefs are underdogs in this game most likely due to the 49ers being at home, but Purdy and the 49ers face their toughest test yet against the Kansas City Chiefs who have consistently shut down the running game and forced offenses into uncomfortable spots. Purdy will need to spread the ball effectively to Samuel and Kittle while avoiding pressure and turnovers.
The Keys To This Game For Both Teams, Who Has The Edge Going In?
The biggest key for the Chiefs going in the connection between Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Mahomes threw for 331 yards in the last game and connected with Kelce ten times for 70 yards. Kansas City will likely look to find a mismatch for Kelce in the middle of the field, where he’s the most dangerous. The 49er’s defense will need to tighten up the secondary in hopes of slowing Mahomes and Kelce down in the air. San Francisco’s physical defense must limit Kelce’s impact and disrupt Mahomes’ rhythm.
The 49ers offense depends on balancing the pass with a solid rushing attack, but Kansas City’s defense has been dominant against the run. If the Niners can find success on the ground, it could open up passing lanes and give Brock Purdy a better chance to complete passes in the air. With both of these teams strong on both sides of the football, turnovers will most likely be the deciding factor in this game.
