The Kansas City Chiefs have the 31st overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. While they can still find a promising prospect at that spot, they could look to trade up to land a bigger difference-maker.
Travis Kelce is not getting any younger, and he even contemplated retirement this offseason. In 2023,, he failed to hit 1,000 yards for the first time since 2016. Last season, he had a career-low 823 receiving yards, excluding his rookie season, when he played just one game. The Chiefs could be interested in drafting his replacement a year early rather than a year too late.
Tyler Warren is the best tight end in this draft class, and his versatility would be perfect for the Chiefs as they try to find Kelce's heir. FanSided's Lou Scataglia predicted a blockbuster trade between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers that would give the Chiefs the 11th overall pick, putting them in position to select Warren.
"The Kansas City Chiefs trade up 20 selections and grab their heir apparent to Travis Kelce, taking Tyler Warren from Penn State," wrote Scataglia. "This could be a huge move to keep KC atop the AFC West."
Warren had 1,233 receiving yards last season and a Big Ten-best 104 receptions. However, it is his ability to make plays all over the field that makes him a great fit for Andy Reid and the Chiefs.
Warren also had 218 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Moving up 20 spots to select a tight end is a risky move for the Chiefs, considering Kelece will still get most of the playing time and their needs on the offensive line. However, Warren is the type of player who could be a staple of the Chiefs' offense for years to come.
