Patrick Mahomes could be the U.S. Olympic team's flag football quarterback at the 2028 Games.
But what if he's actually suited for a better role?
Fansided's Kinnu Singh suggests an alternative: QB coach.
"In flag football, quarterbacks can only advance the ball across the line of scrimmage after handing it off to another player first," Singh writes. "By 2028, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid would be 70 years old. If he’s retired by then, Mahomes’ best fit could be as a quarterbacks coach, where he’d be able to utilize all of the creative trick plays he learned from Reid to open up rushing opportunities for the league’s most dynamic quarterback."
Flag football, just five-on-five, could be a great spot for Mahomes to show off his different arm angles if he actually plays quarterback for the U.S. team.
The Wall Street Journal projected Mahomes to be QB and Lamar Jackson to be RB in a two-quarterback lineup that has worked well for the United States in international competition before.
Mahomes probably would much rather be on the field than on the sideline. But maybe if the Chiefs want him to sit out to stay healthy, a coaching gig would be a good compromise.
There's still a lot of unknowns about NFL players at the Olympics, but it certainly would feel right to see Mahomes out there in some capacity.
