New Kansas City Chiefs running back Elijah Mitchell will be coming to the AFC champs looking to prove himself.
After missing the entire 2024 season with injury for the San Francisco 49ers, it feels like a lifetime ago when Elijah rushed for 963 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season in 2021.
Having dealt with injuries in his past three seasons, Mitchell's career trajectory has stalled and now he is looking to reignite his career with the Chiefs.
And he revealed the struggles of sitting out an entire NFL season.
"It was very challenging," Mitchell said. "Just having the love for football and not being able to step on the field and compete against the best, it really weighed on me a lot, but I'm hungry, and I'm ready to roll."
Mitchell will join a running back room with Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco, and that trio will look to provide some juice in the Chiefs' run game, which was ranked 26th in the NFL last season.
Yes, some are wondering if Mitchell is ready to go to training camp, but he stated he would be 100 percent ready for camp in May as he looks to hit the ground running with his new team.
Bringing speed to the run game, Mitchell could be a valuable piece of Andy Reid's offensive puzzle with Hunt and Pacheco seen as bruisers running the football, so Elijah can be the lightning change-up the Chiefs haven't had.
Of course, after missing so much time with injury, Mitchell will have to get his legs underneath him and get through training camp, and if he does that, then the Chiefs, along with Mitchell, will be ready to roll in 2025.
