The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense is going to look a little different when the 2024 season kicks off in September, especially after trading away All-Pro cornerback L’Jarius Sneed earlier this offseason to the Tennessee Titans.
One area Kansas City has done little to upgrade so far this offseason is at edge rusher, but that could be about to change for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.
Could the Kansas City Chiefs Trade for Matthew Judon?
New England Patriots All-Pro pass-rusher could be a name to watch for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of this season kicking off, even though he’s signed to a deal that carries a $14.675 million cap hit in 2024.
Given that the Chiefs are all-in on making a run at an NFL-record third consecutive Super Bowl victory, and Kansas City is still waiting for former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah to take the next step in his development, a Judon blockbuster could be on the table this summer.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport put together a list of eight trades that could happen this summer, including a deal that sends Judon to the reigning champs:
Patriots Get: 2025 Round 4 Pick, 2026 Round 5 Pick
Chiefs Get: Edge Matthew Judon
“The Chiefs get a sizable upgrade on the edge,” Davenport writes for B/R. “With this move, and the Patriots get more picks to help with their rebuild. And Judon, 31, gets the opportunity for the one thing that has eluded the four-time Pro Bowler to date: A real chance for a ring.”
Through his first eight seasons, Judon has produced 66.5 sacks and is just one year removed from a stellar 15.5-sack 2022 season where he proved he can still be among the most disruptive players at the position across the league.
If the Patriots are intent on adding draft capital, unloading Judon for picks across the next two drafts could be too advantageous to pass up.
